.
Session 1 of the meeting involved a presentation, given by Dr. Eric Galapon of the National Institute of Physics (NIP).
He presented an overview of the state of quantum science and technology of the world vis a vis that of the Philippines.
Dr. Galapon discussed the recent developments that led to the meeting. He mentioned how the NIP, upon hosting the Physics Society of the Philippines annual conference, invited the Dr. Enrico Paringit, the Director of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD). Through informal discussions, they realized that the NIP should lead the mobilization of quantum scientists in the country to be able to finalize the national agenda on quantum science and technology. Dr. Galapon welcomed the participants from the different universities that were invited to join the meeting.
Afterwards, Dr. Galapon presented the National Vision for Quantum Technology as outlined by the PCIEERD. He noted that the vision is specifically named the Quantum Technology Roadmap.
He then proceeded to discuss the difference between quantum science and quantum technology. He argued that the national roadmap should include quantum
science as well.
Session 1 is a call to action, and set the course for the remainder of the meeting. There is LOT of work to do.
